Thursday, April 13, 2017    10:00 – 11:00 a.m. ET

How our community is built has a great influence on our health. Ensuring that our communities’ built environment can provide adequate access to nutritious food is one way that we can positively affect our health. This might include preserving agricultural land, protecting/encouraging smaller food stores (being mindful of the effect of big box retail), urban agriculture solutions like community and rooftop gardens, as well as other micro interventions such as food trucks, and community kitchens.

At our online discussion on April 13, Paul Young, an HC Link consultant who specializes in designing communities to support health, is back with us again! This time, he will answer your questions, provide advice and offer ideas to help you improve the built environment to promote food access in your community! We will also provide the opportunity for you to contribute in this peer sharing and learning.

Some of the questions you may have are:

· How can the built environment support access to food in communities?

· What is a food swamp? What is a food desert?

· How can we map food resources in my community?

· What strategies are other communities using to improve the built environment to promote food access and what might be viable in mine?

· How can you gain public or political support for investments in the built environment as they relate to food access?
